Jill Scott is the only daughter of mother Joyce Scott. She was born in Philadelphia the state of Pennsylvania on the 4th of April, 1972. The family was also dominated by her grandmother and grew up being an all-single child. Scott was a student at an institution called the Philadelphia High School for Girls, and then Temple University after graduating. Scott completed her secondary school education and also worked at two other positions. Her dream was to be a English secondary school teacher. She was unable to fulfill the dream after studying for three years and becoming a teaching assistant, she left college. Her career began as a spoken-word performer who performed her work during poetry readings. Then she teamed up together with Amir Quest Love Thompson from The Roots. The two ended up working together as well as co-writing You Got Me. At a Roots show she made her debut in the spotlight as an artist. Then she secured collaborations for instance, with Eric Benet Will Smith, and Common. She gained more experiences on the stage, as she performed in the Canada tour of the Broadway show Rent. She became the first signed artist for label Hidden Beach Recordings label.
